Popping In: Vol. 1, September 7th 2024
Wicked Trailer, Taylor Swift at the Chiefs Game, and more.
Welcome to the very first issue of Popping In - my weekly newsletter where I’m popping in to share some pop culture tidbits in between podcast episodes.
Think of this as my place to share things that happened in pop culture, but weren’t quite Too Pop to Handle (I can’t talk about EVERYTHING on the podcast).
Where to begin….
I hope you all celebrated Beyoncé’s birthday accordingly - she looked stunning in the photos she shared from her celebration, but when doesn’t she?
Wicked Trailer
Like every other ex-theatre kid, the Wicked Movie is consistently at the forefront of my brain and this week has been an OVERLOAD. Between the OPI teaser perfectly highlighting Cynthia Erivo’s incredible nails, the influx of merchandise, and finally getting the full cast posters, I didn’t think my little gay heart could take much more.
And then they dropped the second trailer…and it turns out, I was right. My gay heart cannot take it. From the extended snippet of Defying Gravity, Jonathan Bailey’s slutty little waist, and a better idea of the acting chops Ms. Ariana Grande will be delivering (she’s selling it), I simply cannot wait for this movie any longer - thank god we’re less than 80 days away from opening night.
Taylor Swift is in her WAG Era Again
Miss Americana herself is pausing the Eras Tour and pressing play on her WAG era. She cheered on Travis Kelce at his first night of the 2024 NFL Season.
Sporting her version of a Canadian Tuxedo, our girl looked stunning as she sipped her vodka cran in her suite with Ed Kelce. Personally I cannot wait to hear all the NFL fans cry over her being at the games again this year.
(P.S. she was seated in a completely different suite than Brittany Mahomes)
Charli xcx + Troye Sivan for i-D Magazine
Everyone’s favorite gay son and thot daughter duo sat down with i-D Magazine to help relaunch their website and tell us how they’re going to make us all SWEAT this fall 🥵.
They shared the story of how they met (at a party, very Brat coded), what they’re most excited about for their live show in which they said “literally everything” followed by “the staging is fucking crazy. I mean, not to hype it up too much, but it’s great”, and gave flowers to the new pop girls who are taking over the scene with them.
"It feels like there’s this new wave of artists with different ambitions and cultural touchpoints who are really thriving in mainstream culture. And I think that’s myself, that’s Troye, that’s Chappell." - Charli xcx
On the topic of Charli xcx, Barak Obama (yes, previous POTUS) was a guest on the “I‘ve Had It Podcast” and doubled down on 365 being on his summer playlist which is extremely important to me.
