Thirty, Flirty, Unemployed, and Still Thriving
Is this thing on? Let's play catch up...I've got a lot of updates for you guys.
I often joke that certain moments in my life feel like I’m being filmed for a TV show, but nothing could have prepared me for the Mindy Kaling-esque plot line that is turning 30 on April 6th and getting laid off on April 8th. I know it’s comical - but I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s catch up!
If you only follow me on Substack, you might have noticed I’ve been MIA from this platform for about a month, and to that, I say: I’m sorry! Between work, podcasting, and creating content on other platforms, I kept saying “I’ll write this week’s newsletter tomorrow” but when tomorrow came, I was exhausted from everything else I was trying to take on. Here’s what you missed podcast-wise since we last spoke:
Pop Music That Changed Pop Culture (this one will be a blog post eventually, my pop bibles deserve a spot on the Substack)
Miley Cyrus is Going to Do What Miley Cyrus is Going to Do - a deep dive into Miley Cyrus’ career from Hannah Montana to now in anticipation of her upcoming album ‘Something Beautiful’.
What Happens at The White Lotus, Stays at The White Lotus - a recap of The White Lotus season three finale and my thoughts on the season overall.
I also recorded a reaction video to Miley Cyrus’ End of the World music video which leads me to my next point: where I want to take my content this year!
As I mentioned earlier, I got laid off last week, which means I’m applying to jobs like a motherf*cker, and I have some extra free time to refine my content and figure out what I want to do on the internet going forward. I want to take this time to build and engage with the community I’ve started building online (that’s you!) Whether through my newsletter, podcast, YouTube, or TikTok, I want to hone in on watering the seeds I’ve been planting on the internet to take things to the next level. I’m going to get back on my Popping In weekend newsletters, podcast notes, and even get a little more personal on here with my writing (scary, I know). I may even dive into using my paid tier here on Substack, but let’s take this one step at a time.
All of that being said, this is a whole new chapter for me and I’m so excited to see where this road takes me. Now is the perfect time to make sure you’re following me on all of my social channels because I’m ready to take this new decade by the reigns and make shit happen.
Now, let’s get to the good stuff.
For anyone wondering: my birthday was absolutely perfect. I truly could not have asked for a better way to ring in this milestone birthday. I kicked off my birthday weekend with a fabulous dinner on Friday night at Alison with my boyfriend (they have an insane deal on Pulsd right now that I cannot recommend enough - this is one of my favorite meals I’ve had in months), danced the night away at my birthday party at Solas in the East Village on Saturday which lead to an epic New Years Eve style count down to midnight to my actual birthday at Playhouse, watched 13 Going on 30 the morning of my 30th, and ended with a Kylie Minogue VS Madonna Drag Brunch at Rise in Hell’s Kitchen plus an evening at Flaming Saddles - what more could you ask for!?

I took the Monday after my birthday off to re-coup from the weekend and when I walked into my office on Tuesday at 9 AM, I turned right back around and walked out the door by 9:09 AM because I was laid off. I’ve never been laid off in my life so you can imagine the shock that I felt. It wasn’t because of my performance or inability to do my job, but rather the fact that we’re headed straight into a recession and my company couldn’t afford my role anymore. Though we ended on good terms, it still stings getting a birthday cake at work one day and a few days later getting fired. Regardless, I’m doing my best to stay positive
In a time where it feels like the world is my oyster, I’m feeling a plethora of emotions but overall I’m excited to see where this chapter takes me, and I hope you’ll come along on this journey with me.
happy belated and here's to a new chapter that I know you'll make the best out of :)
